Hearing poems and writings About death and military galore A sweet yet painful memory strikes And nearly brings tears to my eyes
At a funeral In a beautiful city Was buried a man With his wife
A couple rows up His parents do lie Taking it all in No one releases a sigh
Go over a few sites Her parents are there too All buried together A family stands proud
Three children have come A daughter in law too Seven grandchildren did gather One great-grandchild still young
Ceremony coming to an end Military honors soon to come Marines lined up A 21 gun salute
Casket lowered in the ground Once a man he made us proud Marine for 21 years Police officer for 20
This is a man Who loved his family Took them in When they were in desperate need
There once was a man Who stood high and proud Fought for his country And never looked down
There once was a man A brave marine Old and grumpy Like a father to me
There once was a man Who everyone loved Now this man has gone To the heavens above
There once was a man Who I'll always hold dear He was my friend, my mentor and guide He was my grandfather May his soul finally rest in peace
~~In case you haven't noticed... my grandfather was a huge part of my life... I miss him more with each passing day... because sometimes it seems that all I need is to hear him call out my silly nickname... *sighs*
