Right Wing Praises Thong check at high school dance
One perfect example of a violation of privacy being praised by the right wing media and activist groups was when Vice-Principal, Rita Wilson, required a pre-dance “thong check”. Girls entering the dance would be asked what kind of underwear they had on, typically if they had on a short skirt. If they said they were wearing a thong they were immediately sent home to change into “appropriate” underwear, that meaning butt-cupping uncomfortable granny panties. But this lady would make them roll up their skirts in front of their peers, teachers, even parents to be “extra sure” that they were not wearing thongs. The right wingers take on this was far different and very skeptical, of the girls of course with their anti-woman ideology. Concerned Women for America columnist, Martha Kleder, is one prime example of this primitive-minded thinking. Below is a statement of theirs:
“Although some observers decried an “invasion of privacy,” others found that charge absurd.
“Let’s not forget these young girls were about to display everything under their skirts to everyone at the dance,” Dr. Janice Crouse, senior fellow with the Beverly LaHaye Institute (BLI), told C&F Report.
The thing is, the Beverly Lahaye Institute is the same organization as Concerned Women for America, so they’re basically citing their own group in this, secondly a schoolteacher forcing a girl to show what kind of panties she’s packing is an invasion of privacy. Not all of the girls, although there were some, wanted to show off their thongs to the whole school and “freak dance” as it is called. More idiocy is to come from the group below, just for you to judge for yourself:
““Thongs and freak dancing for teens and even pre-teens! How sad,” added BLI’s Janice Crouse. “Childhood is disappearing from our culture. In its place we have lewd behavior.”
“Meanwhile, as parents remain either unaware of the trend, or find it cute, teachers are finding themselves backed into a corner on dress and behavior issues. Educators who accept the challenge and try to fill gaps in their student’s parenting have come under fire.”
This is what I call a one-sided assault directly at teenage girls, throughout the entire article there was no reference to how the boys behavior was, but hey, it’s a Christian group. What else can you expect? Intelligence? Unbiased reporting? Facts? I don’t think so, unless you’re talking about the Christian Science Monitor there is no such thing. Of course they cited all of the teachers, and conservatives at that matter’s opinions, they did not bother to tell what the girls thought.
What one 16 year old girl went through described in the San Diego Union Tribune:
“"It was a violation of these kids' privacy, and very embarrassing for kids at that age," said Cindy Chappell, whose 16-year-old daughter complained that her bra was exposed while Wilson examined her tube top.
The student said she was asked whether the tube top was attached to her bra. After answering, the student said, Wilson grabbed her tube top and yanked it down, exposing most of her bra.
"I felt embarrassed because there were about 50 people standing around," Chappell's daughter said. "I didn't think I had done anything wrong."
According to Officer Greg Bisesto in the San Diego Union Tribune:
“San Diego city police Officer Greg Bisesto said that while patrolling the dance, which was attended by about 725 students, he watched Wilson force dozens of girls to lift their skirts. He said he heard Wilson ask the questions: "Are you wearing underwear? If so, is it a thong? . . . Then let me check."
"I just thought, 'Oh, my God, what is she doing?' " Bisesto said. "This is totally out of line."
I wonder why Concerned Women for America decided not to let these peoples voices be heard? Could they have just forgotten, or were they purposely targeting teenage girls. Well let’s see, 1. Conservative, and 2. Protestant. Well gee, I think that is self explanatory what they would do to them next.
