Proud to be “Un-American”<br>
Proud to be Un-American, land that I loathe! I won’t stand beside it, While Bush misguides it, Into the dark light of the right with Karl Rove. Proud to be Un-American, Proud to be pro-choice! While I’m ignored in the media, Making me the unheard dissenting voice. Proud to be an Atheist, Who doesn’t want prayer in school! Who stands full force against Pat Robertson, Who wants our land beaten down with Christian rules! Proud to be Un-American, and stand for free speech! That’s being cracked down upon, By John Ashcroft, and the so-called president I want impeached. Down with Rupert Murdoch, down with Fox News! They say fair and balanced while they only showcase right wing views! Proud to be Un-American! Land that I loathe! I won’t stand beside it, While Bush misguides it. Into the dark light of the right with Karl Rove!

i dont agree with it for the most part, but i think the poem is good, and i respect your willingness to speak your mind.

In this country we all have a right to our opinions, although I said I'm "proud to be Un-American", it did not mean I actually hate the country. I was actually referring to what a few right wingers called me a couple of times for speaking my mind. So I should have put quotes around Un-American like this "Un-American" to let people know it's what I'm being called for doing so. Anyways, thank you for putting up a reasonable critique of my poem and not walking away pissed off, I appreciate that a lot.

I wasn't satisfied...i expected more hate and disgust. Americans should be trampelle; for believing in such shitty views...but prayer in school? isn't that only in elementary school? In highschool and college i've never noticed such things....like prayer in school? Unless you yourself is in a catholic school...? Doesn't ppl. see that Bush is envading in other ppl.'s affairs?? Does he think he's helping? He cannot stand the site of another country being better than his own...just like most American's views...even in some ways your own.

I like your rhythm here, I didn't stumble over anything! As for general ideas, maybe it's just me but it seems the whole idea of "anti patriotism" seems a bit like a rebelion to authority, which is so awful cool amongs all the hips kids. And yes I know you can rescite reason after reasons, but that still in my opinion would be reasons of a strong bias. Besides, if you're proud to be "un-american" why not become an expatriate....oh let me guess, maybe because then if you were to write such a rebelious piece it would not stir as much controversy? Anyway, good piece, sparked me to think ^^

I feel sorry for you Aaron, this poem is very sad to me. I know you wanted a liberal website and I respect you for trying for what you want. Just by reading this poem, I know I will not be back to your website, I am a Specialist in the United States Army. I respect my country and although I sometimes do not like what the President of my free country does, he is also my boss in all due respect. I chose not to voice my opinion about my President, he does what he can, and I receive orders from him and I carry out those orders with the best of my ability because I love this country. I am not knocking what you have written, I know it sounds like I am, but I do not mean for it the seem like that or be like that. I fight for this country so that you will have the freedom to write these poems about being un-American, and so that you can bash our President and not be killed for doing so. Like I said before, I smile upon you for trying to do your best with your website/work, and I enjoyed reading several of your poems. But I also have been to Iraq and I saw what those people were going through and I personally had several Iraq citizens thanking me for trying to make them a free country too. Everyday I thank God for blessing me to live in this country where people can say bad things about the President, they can protest war, and do basically whatever they want. Right after I say this prayer, I also say GOD BLESS AMERICA & GOD BLESS MY FELLOW SOLDIERS! Good luck with your website.

I wrote this poem not because I hate America.......rather to spite what many neoconservatives tell me that when I disagree with Bush taht I am UnAmerican.....see what I mean? I'm proud of your service to our country, but I'm not proud of how our president has treated you.

let's whine while people in other country's don't even have a choice in religon where they get shot if they speak their mind where it's okay to rape women and its okay to shoot someone if their a certain race awww. poor us. being grateful for what you have and shut up and whats wrong with praying in school we have a right to pray just as much as you have a right to write this it's okay to be gay, it's okay to be rude. but it's aparently horrible if you want to have faith in a God it's none of your business where people put their faith, they ain't forcing you to pray. Thats what freedoms about. so deal.
you don't know how lucky you are to be born in a country with such oppurtunity to speak your mind and choice your own way of life. Sure we have bumps along the way but noway we can be perfect. Theres a way to adress issues you don't agree civivly and a way to just be a brat.

I never said you never had the right to pray in school, The problem is you make it a rule. Don't come to me and act so vexed, and take what I say out of context. This was meant for those proud few, Who tell me how to think and what to do, What to want and what to say, thinking censorship's the American way. My Bible is the constitution, my 10 commandments the Bill of Rights, Not religious institutions and their theocratic blight. You say you don't get forced to pray... Have you seen Alabama? We're truly free as you say, yet we have the largest population in the slamma.
Perhaps you don't understand the Bible Belt, you get called "Un-American" for simply speaking your mind and this poem was really all I was trying to point out, controversy was intended and as a supporter of the 1st Amendment I do not apologize for exercising it. I actually do love America, I can't think of any other country where I could be free to say the shit that I say besides Holland. It's because we have a habit now of simply saying we're the greatest country and never ACTING like it that irritates me. So from one freaking american to another why don't you quit your whining and griping and actually understand what I was trying to address, you know from the aspect of the person who has been called a traitor, a pinko, a commie, a wierdo, a coward, a radical, a terrorist sympathizer, and of course my all time favorite a "freedom hater". Unfortunately for people like you you saw only the title and took everything out of context.
