The Nature of the Police
A man was arrested and quickly turned in,
on false charges all because of the color of his skin.
Such is the nature of an American cop,
to beat down a black man in a white world and make sure not to stop.
Cuts penetrating his deep brown face,
Because a single racist cop thought he was out of place.
How can you say the badge today is not hatred's true shape?
Have you even listened to the Mark Fuhrman tapes?
When you say back the badge you're backing this man,
When you say back the badge you're backing the Klan.
There should be some form of laws or provisions,
that let these men know they cannot make these decisions.
Just remember these men and women give cops a bad name,
A good cop would let them know that they won't play their game.
The game where the pieces are divided by creed,
Where when you roll the dice you're doing a bad deed.
A good cop would not let them search an Arab head to toe,
while at the same time just patting a white man, then letting him go.
Or profiling by race for who could have committed a crime,
Causing one innocent man or woman to wind up doing time.
It won't be easy for me to trust a word that they say,
They're thugs with a badge, they're the police of today.
